idid004: Schindler House
Id(entifying) I(interior) D(esign) in the Schindler House by Rudolph Schindler.
Not so much idid as an interior pulled from Instagram, but an interior / project that received a lot of attention when posting on @white__sage. Note: that most of the furniture and fittings are by the architect themselves.
The Schindler House, also known as Kings Road House or the Schindler-Chace House, is located in West Hollywood, California and was built in 1922. It is able to be visited today and serves as the headquarters for MAK Center for Art and Architecture.
Void of a conventional living room, dining room or bedrooms, the architecture is laid out as 2 interlinking “L shaped” apartments conceptualised for two separate families to live within.

Each apartment consisted of two studios (4 in total) and were originally designated for the four members of the household, Rudolph & Pauline Schindler and Clyde & Marian Chace.
In the Summer of 1924 Clyde & Marian Chace moved out of the house and interstate. In March 1925, fellow Austrian, friend, partner and rival, Richard Neutra moved into the “Chace Wing” of the building with his wife Dione and son Frank. They remained there for 5 years.
